Description
One of the many Latvian Devil’s Stones found in every Latvian county. This one is not great in size, but significant as a probable ancient cult site. Its size: length of 4.3 m, width of 2.0 m, height of only 0.7 m, circumference of 10.7 m. The stone had been split apart in times unknown and part of it, possibly, had disappeared — it could be used for some building as construction material. About barbaric devastation 8 splits preserved until now on the stone and around it testify. Average crystal rose-greyish gneiss.
Narrative
Considered to be a mythological place basing on tales and the name. A tale narrates that the stone is the Devil’s bed. As to its form, it resembles a very uneven bed. Stones with the name “bed” are not so widely spread in Latvia. The most well-known is the Andrecēni Devil’s Bed (Andrecēnu Velna gulta) in the Naukšēni County.
