Description
One of the most widely known healing springs of Latvia. Very popular and often visited, since it is mineral sulphur spring. The output of the spring is 24 l/ sec (measured in 2011).
Narrative
Barbele sulphur spring has been mentioned already in texts from 18th as a healing place, although most probably the place was known earlier. Since the water was used for healing purposes in the older days it might be also an ancient cult site. It is being told that the spring was used already in very ancient times. During the different times it had been facilitated in various ways. Also nowadays it is well managed. The spring flows out of a 6,8 m deep well, which has been once drilled to improve the place.
